Medical Keynote Speaker
Joseph Alton, M.D. and Amy Alton, A.R.N.P. are the Medical Keynote Speakers for the Self Reliance Expo. They are also the premiere Medical Preparedness Professionals from the top ten survival website www.doomandbloom.net and are also known as “Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy” in the preparedness community. They are teaching a well attended Complete Wound Care Suture and Stapling Hand-On Class for a limited number of students during the SRE.
Both Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy have written two books. The second edition is titled ” The Survival Medicine Handbook” and the first edition is titled, “The Doom and Bloom™ Survival Medicine Handbook,” a guide for the non-medical professional to staying healthy is situations where help is NOT on the way. It has occupied the #1 Amazon Bestseller spot numerous times in the Survival Skills, Disaster Relief, and the Safety and First Aid categories since it was published.
Joseph Alton practiced as a board-certified Obstetrician and Pelvic Surgeon for more than 25 years before retiring to devote his efforts to preparing your family medically for any scenario. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American College of Surgeons for many years, served as department chairman at local hospitals and as an adjunct professor at local university nursing schools. He is a popular speaker at survival and preparedness conferences on the subject of medical readiness in austere times. A member of MENSA, Dr. Alton collects medical books from the 19th century to gain insight on off-the-grid medical protocols.
Amy Alton is an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Nurse-Midwife. She has had years of experience working in large teaching institutions as well as smaller, family-oriented hospitals. Amy has extensive medicinal herb and vegetable gardens and works to include natural remedies into her strategies.
Dr. and Ms. Alton are regular contributors to Backwoods Home, Survival Quarterly, Self-Reliance Illustrated, and Survivalist magazines. As “Dr. Bones and Nurse Amy”, they host a radio program called the Survival Medicine Hour on BlogTalkRadio and their show is syndicated by several other well-known stations.

NEW Bleeding Control Class
Friday, May 26 at 1:00 – 4:00PM
The Bleeding Control Class is meant to teach the non-medical professional basic and advanced concepts to control hemorrhaging in the injured victim. Different types and areas of wounds will be reviewed, along with some anatomy and physiology related to bleeding and injuries.
Techniques and steps to stop bleeding will be demonstrated and hands-on training for:
- Donning gloves
- Direct pressure
- Tourniquets (CAT, SOF-T and SWAT)
- Hemostatic dressings
- Wound packing
- Compression dressings
- Chest seals
- Shock positioning
A special laminated Bleeding Control Instruction sheet and 1 Israeli Emergency Dressing, will be provided to each student as free gifts.
